Mikael Landén is Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Gothenburg and senior consultant psychiatrist at Sahlgrenska University Hospital. He leads research programs focused on affective disorders, particularly bipolar disorder. As principal investigator of the St. Göran Bipolar Project and the Swedish Bipolar Collection (SWEBIC), Professor Landén has advanced the understanding of genetic, neurobiological, and clinical dimensions of bipolar disorder. His work combines epidemiology, biomarker discovery, neuroimaging, and pharmacology to improve diagnostics and treatments. 

He has published over 350 peer-reviewed papers and received several honors, including the 2024 Mogens Schou Award for Research from the International Society for Bipolar Disorders. In parallel with his research, Professor Landén continues to treat patients and contribute to national quality assurance efforts through his leadership of the Swedish Bipolar Disorder Quality Assurance Registry (BipoläR).
