Dr. Louise Öhlund is a consultant psychiatrist and postdoctoral researcher with a deep commitment to both clinical care and academic medicine. Based in Umeå, Sweden, she specializes in affective and psychotic disorders, with a particular focus on supporting women with severe psychiatric conditions during the perinatal period. 

She earned her MD and PhD in Medical Sciences (Psychiatry) from Umeå University, where her doctoral research centered on the treatment of affective disorders, especially bipolar disorder and the use of lithium. As a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Clinical Sciences, Psychiatry, Dr. Öhlund has contributed to numerous projects, including investigations into how individuals with severe mental illness coped during the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Beyond research, she is a passionate educator, teaching psychiatry to medical students and serving as principal supervisor for their thesis work within the Master of Science in Medicine program. With a focus on improving care for vulnerable populations, she works to connect clinical experience with research insights in both her academic and clinical roles.
