David Taylor

Professor David Taylor is the Director of Pharmacy and Pathology at the South London and Maudsley NHS Trust. He also serves as Professor of Psychopharmacology at King’s College London and is the Editor-in-Chief of Therapeutic Advances in Psychopharmacology. Since 1993, he has been the lead author of the Maudsley Prescribing Guidelines that have sold over 300,000 copies and has been published in fifteen editions and twelve languages. In 2024, he co-authored the Maudsley Deprescribing Guidelines.
Professor Taylor has authored approximately 450 clinical papers in leading journals such as The Lancet, BMJ, British Journal of Psychiatry, and Journal of Clinical Psychiatry. His research has been cited more than 30,000 times. Beyond academia and clinical work, he has contributed to national health policy. He was a member of the UK Department of Transport expert panel responsible for introducing drug-driving regulations and served on the UK government’s Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs from 2020 to 2024. His contributions to psychiatry have been uniquely recognized with an honorary fellowship from the Royal College of Psychiatrists, making him the only pharmacist to receive this honour.
