Julian Stern, BA MB ChB FRCPsych

Julian Stern portraitDr Julian Stern is currently Consultant Psychiatrist in Psychotherapy at the Tavistock Centre in London, UK, and from 2016 worked as the Director of Adult and Forensic Services in the same organisation.

After studying Medicine in Cape Town, South Africa, Julian trained in Psychiatry and Adult Psychotherapy at the Maudsley Hospital in London. He then worked for 17 years as Head of the Psychological Medicine Unit at St Mark’s Hospital, before moving to the Tavistock Centre in 2010.

He is passionate about integrating psychological and medical understanding and practice, as well as making psychoanalytic and systemically informed treatments available to “difficult to reach” patients and families.

Julian has published widely in Psychiatric, Psychotherapy and Gastroenterology journals, teaches and supervises internationally, and has co-edited 2 textbooks: “Core Psychiatry” (Wright ,Stern and Phelan) and more recently “Functional GI disorders: a biopsychosocial approach” (Knowles, Stern and Hebbard)


Joanne Stubley, MBBS, MRCPsych, TSP, APP, Member BPAS

Joanne Stubley portraitJoanne Stubley is a Consultant Psychiatrist in Psychotherapy at the Tavistock Clinic. She leads the Tavistock Trauma Service, and has considerable experience of working with individuals, groups and organisations who have experienced trauma.

She is actively involved in teaching and training in this field, with a particular interest in complex trauma.

Dr Stubley is a member of the British Psychoanalytic Society, and is trained in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (tf-CBT), Eye Movement
Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) and MDMA – assisted psychotherapy for PTSD.

She is Co-Chair of the Psychotherapy Faculty of the Royal College of Psychiatrists’ task group on Historical Child Sexual Abuse. She is also on the Board of Trustees for Freedom from Torture, a Human Rights charity which provides therapeutic care for survivors of torture.


Jessica Yakeley, MB BChir, MRCP, FRCPsych

Jessica Yakely portraitJessica Yakely is a Consultant Psychiatrist in Forensic Psychotherapy and Director of the Portman Clinic, and Director of Medical Education, Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust. She is also a Fellow of the British Psychoanalytic Society and Editor of the journal Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy.

She specializes in the psychotherapeutic treatment of people presenting with violent and sexual problems. She has published widely on topics including psychological therapies, medical education, violence, risk assessment, prison health, and antisocial personality disorder.

She is Vice-Chair for the Royal College of Psychiatrists Psychotherapy Faculty and Research Lead for the British Psychoanalytic Council.

She is currently leading the national development and implementation of community services for a multi-site randomised-controlled trial of mentalization-based treatment for antisocial personality disorder as part of the UK Government’s National Personality Disorder Offender Pathways Strategy.


Joram Ronel, MD

Joram Ronel portraitJoram Ronel is head of the Department of Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy at the Clinic Barmelweid, one of the largest psychosomatic and psychotherapeutic in-patient treatment centers in Switzerland.

He has qualified in Internal Medicine as well as in Psychosomatic Medicine and is a psychoanalyst and group analyst.

 Joram’s research and clinical expertise lies in the treatment of somatoform and functional disorders in combination with developmental psychology. He is a senior lecturer at the university hospital of the Technical University Munich, Germany.

Joram has authored numerous scientific articles and book chapters. He was also a member of the steering committee for the German national guidelines on somatoform and functional disorders. Further research interests include psychocardiology and transgenerational transmission of extreme traumatization of Holocaust survivors.


Judith Gorgass

Judith Gorgass portraitJudith Gorgass is an actress from Munich, Germany. She graduated from the International Michael Chekhov School for Acting in 2001 and has been playing in over 50 theater productions. She is trained in the Michael Chekhov and Sanford Meisner technique.

She is also a stilt artist, touring with ZEBRA stilt theater for 16 years now.
She writes theater plays, teaches children and adults in acting and clown classes in Munich and abroad with Goethe institute and runs her own company, CLOWNESS theater.

Since 2011 she belongs to the simulated actors team of Technical University and Ludwigs-Maximilian-University in Munich. Furthermore she works with Dr. Joram Ronel in various workshops and trainings for doctors of all fields in Germany and Switzerland.


Ursula Werneke, MD, MSc, PgDip (LSHTM), FRCPsych

Ursula Werneke portraitUrsula Werneke is consultant psychiatrist at Sunderby Hospital Luleå and director for postgraduate education in psychiatry for Norrbotten County Council.

She is also associate professor (docent) at Umeå University and a fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in the UK, having trained psychiatry at the Maudsley Hospital in London.

Dr Werneke’s main interests are lifestyle, nutrition, clinical pharmacology and complementary medicine, and her work in these areas has gained broad international attention.
